Pressure mounts as GED deadline nears

It can take months, or even years, to prepare for and complete all five parts of the GED exam. But if the test happens to change in the middle of your efforts, you’ll have to start all over.

When the GED gets updated, any sections completed in the old version are considered incompatible – and thrown out.

Adults trying to pass this test usually have a lot on their plates. So I wanted to see how the impending deadline was affecting them.

Most Native Americans have painful stories of family members who attended boarding schools. The federal government created the schools with the purpose of destroying American Indian culture.

Countless former students say the punishment they endured at the schools made them depressed, violent, and turn to substances to cope.
